Fast facial smile detection using convolutional neural network in an intelligent working environment

•A fast facial smile detection method is developed with the convolutional neural network and infrared imaging technology.•A spectral-spatial constraint is designed to preserve spectral details and suppress the random noise.•The split Bregman iteration algorithm is described to optimize the proposed model.•The high-resolution infrared spectrum could be utilized for facial smile detection in intelligent learning environment.
