•New silica forming peptide (SFP), named RSGH was designed on the basis of the peptide from Equus caballus.•RSGH showed better silica precipitation activity under acidic pH conditions than R5, the most well-known SFP.•RSGH-mediated biosilcification was employed for silica shell-coating of yeast at acidic pH conditions.
