•A new approach for building environmental and energy performance assessment is proposed.•The approach integrates scenario modelling and Fuzzy Analytic Network Process.•Scenario modelling maps performance indicators to multiple granular building objects.•Fuzzy Analytic Network Process enables objective analysis on relative weights of indicators.•A case study is conducted to demonstrate the engineering value of the approach.
