In the injection molding process, the melted polycarbonate is injected into a mold cavity of the desired shape and then cooled down under a high packing pressure. This process forces the polycarbonate to undergo a complex deformation and thermal history that affects the final properties of the product. Govaert et al. proved that the thermal history experienced from the melt to solidification has an impact on the yield stress of molded polycarbonate products. However, processing simulation tools such as Moldflow and Moldex3D only give access to the evaluation of shrinkage, warpage, etc., while the mechanical behavior of the final product is unknown. Likewise, mechanical analysis tools such as Abaqus and LS-DYNA can only evaluate the mechanical responses of products under desired loading conditions, while the effects of processing need to be further investigated.
