Distribution Voltage Regulation Using Combined Local And Central Control Based On Real-Time Data

This paper proposes a control architecture that hierarchically combines a central and a local control to overcome individual weaknesses as well as to effectively and continuously regulate the voltage in the distribution systems under multiple PVs. The central control calculates the accurate references based on the periodic measurements in real-time, by considering the multiple target buses to improve the computational efficiency. With the determined references, the local control provides fast response to the voltage deviation during the computation of the central control. Therefore, the combined method can maintain continuously the voltage within the control range, and simultaneously minimize the active power curtailment. The performance of the proposed scheme is investigated by the simulation results on the modified IEEE 34-bus distribution feeder.
