Stratification efficiency of thermal energy storage systems – A new KPI based on dynamic hardware in the loop testing - Part II: Test results

•Stratification efficiency has a large influence on the COP of the heat pump that charges a stratified thermal storage for DHW and space heating.•Stratification efficiency correlated well with the overall efficiency of the six tested systems.•Heat losses of the tested storages was relatively unimportant compared to stratification efficiency.
