摘要

•A pinless tool with a bottom groove was designed to friction plug weld GFR nylon sheets.•The plug nut was composed of three regions in which fiber distributions were different.•Glass fibers in the stir zone tended to orientate towards the plug rotating direction.•Joints failed with lower weld pulling out and the maximum facture load reached 1600 N.
