Study on the water seal formation process in advanced PWR pressurizer using CFD method

•Three dimensional analysis method of new proposed pressurizer water seal structure is established.•Water seal formation process was simulated, and the results were in good agreement with in house experimental data.•Detailed three-dimensional distributions of thermal-hydraulics characteristics are achieved.•This work provides a meaningful guideline for the new innovative pressurizer water seal design in advanced PWR.
