Self-calibrated ballistic model for sprinkler irrigation with a field experiments data base

•A sprinkler irrigation ballistic model was modified and automated.•A database with 207 field experiments was integrated in the simulation model.•Wind data intervals should not exceed 30 min for a better sprinkler simulation.•Terrain slope can be relevant for sprinkler simulation specially at high wind speed.•The new model improves accuracy and computing time of calibrations and simulations.
