•Ibrutinib therapy rapidly reduce the oxidative burst in CLL patients.•Ibrutinib therapy impair FcγRs-mediated neutrophils degranulation in CLL patients.•Ibrutinib therapy alter IL-8 plasma levels after E. coli stimulation in CLL patients.•After forty months of ibrutinib, the neutrophils killing ability is recovered.
