•2054 differential expressed genes (DEGs) were screened in tumor group.•Cell cycle associated signal pathways were dysregulated during HCC progression.•Cytoskeleton related genes were highly expressed in HCC.•CDK1 and PLK1 promoted the cell cycle, apoptosis and proliferation of liver tumor-derived cell line.
