•A coupled optical-thermal model was developed for glazed PV/T systems.•Greenhouse effect was simulated by a two-band radiation discrete ordinate model.•Thermal efficiency increased by 12% in the presence of greenhouse effect.•An optimum tube number of 16 was proposed for the studied configuration of PV/T.
