•An efficient method of NPC-UAE was firstly applied to extract flavonoids from FSI.•The process of NPC-UAE of flavonoids in FSI was firstly explored through kinetics.•The mass transfer mechanism of NPC-UAE was described in detail in this paper.•The excellent performance of NPC-UAE was superior to the traditional methods.•The application prospect of efficient NPC-UAE in industrial field is great.
