Continuous gap-graded particle packing designs

Continuous gap-graded systems (packings with a shortage of medium-sized particles) often show excellent application properties in practice. In this study, existing empirical models were reviewed and modified to include a minimum grain size. In the newly proposed modified model with the highest freedom of design, a continuous gap-graded particle size distribution can be fully described by a minimum particle size, a gap particle size, a maximum particle size and two distribution moduli by which the amount of fines as well as the amount of coarses in relation to medium-sized particles (the extent of the gap-grading) can be adjusted.
