•The stealthiness indices of three predatory mites against spider mites were measured. These were:•The proportion of dispersed mites in response to predator intrusion, and.•The proportions of prey eggs laid on webs in response to predator eggs.•The indices resulted in the same ranking across prey species and prey populations.•The indices can be used for evaluating predatory mites as biological control agents.
