Management and environmental factors explaining soybean seed protein variability in central Argentina

•Seed protein concentration was spatially correlated for soybean as single crop.•Cultivar election was the most important crop management variable to optimize seed protein concentration.•Temperature and rainfall were relevant environmental factors related to seed protein concentration.•Sites with high yield and high seed protein concentration were evident.
