“Ages and Hf isotopic compositions of detrital zircons in the Pinal schist, southern Arizona, USA: Provenance, tectonic setting, and evidence for pre-1.7 Ga crust in SW Laurentia”

•Determination of the provenance of the Pinal schist and interpretation of the tectonic setting of the Pinal basin.•Identification of an older crustal component in the source material of the Pinal schist.•Interpretation that the Mazatzal arc, and perhaps also the Yavapai arc, were built upon older 1.85–1.90 Ga—and perhaps even older—crust and are not therefore “juvenile”.•A speculation that the older component was derived from cryptic crust of the trans-Hudson-Penokean orogenic systems that extended into the southern margin of Laurentia.
