Impacts of different weather conditions and landuse change on runoff variations in the Beiluo River Watershed, China

•The change of precipitation has a positive impacts on the runoff variation, while the catchment change has a negative impacts on the runoff variation.•Landuse changes are the main reason for runoff reduction at the headwater region of the Beiluo River.•Different weather conditions are the major contributor to the runoff reduction in the lower reaches of the Beiluo River.
