Relationships between Astrocytes and Absence Epilepsy in Rat: An Experimental study.

•Astrocytes takes part in the modulation of neuronal activity through the uptake and release of both GABA and glutamate.•The GFAP-positive astrocyte and GFAP protein levels showed a discrete difference between Wistar and genetically epileptic strains.•Increase GFAP-positive astrocytes and GFAP protein levels in the two genetically absence epileptic strains may alter the neuronal function.•Specific astrocyte modulating approaches can be developed for managing absence epilepsy.
