Elder mistreatment and social network composition: an exploratory study.

•Elder mistreatment was associated with small increases in net change between NSHAP waves 1 and 2.•Elder mistreatment was associated with specific network members added but not with specific network members lost between study waves.•Elder mistreatment was not associated with changes in network density between study waves.•These results suggest that older adults may be able to maintain active social networks despite mistreatment and point to a need for more research.
