Investigation of ammonia stripping with a hydrodynamic cavitation reactor.

•Hydrodynamic cavitation is seen to be highly effective method for gas-liquid mass transfer.•At high pH, it was possible to remove ammonia without the addition of air.•Increasing temperature decreased the operation time significantly without effecting cavitation benefits.•The heating of wastewater to desired temperatures is possible without external sources.
