In patients with nonmetastatic breast cancer, screening for asymptomatic brain metastases cannot currently be justified. However, due to the high incidence of brain metastases among patients with metastatic HER2 and triple-negative breast cancer, studies to determine the value of screening for brain metastases should be undertaken in these subgroups.
