Dermoscopic features in BRAF and NRAS primary cutaneous melanoma: association with peppering and blue-white veil.

Most somatic mutations in BRAF and NRAS oncogenes result in the activation of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway and have a role in the development of both benign melanocytic tumors, such as acquired and congenital nevi , and melanoma . Dermoscopic features associated with melanomas harboring BRAF mutations have been reported , but limited data is available concerning NRAS melanomas . The objective was to report the dermoscopic characteristics of melanoma according to mutational status and investigate possible associations between dermoscopic phenotype and genotype.
