摘要
On-off controlled wireless transmission is a simple and effective means of achieving rate-control. We point out here that it can be efficiently implemented using a scheme in which only data blocks received with a channel gain greater than a preset threshold are demodulated, irrespective of whether the block is coded or un-coded. The scheme sets the threshold to minimize either the average accepted bit error probability (AABEP) or the instantaneous accepted bit error outage probability (IABEOP). We show that the slopes of the AABEP and IABEOP curves increase very fast with the effective signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), which is the mean total SNR summed over the random number of transmissions required before a block is accepted. Thus, the achievable diversity order is asymptotically higher than that of any conventional diversity reception system. The proposed scheme has potential applications to ultra-reliable and low latency communications for 5G and B5G wireless systems.
