Gelsedine-type alkaloids: Discovery of natural neurotoxins presented in toxic honey.

•14-(R)-hydroxy-gelsenicine, a novel plant toxin separated from poisonous honey, was firstly reported and identified.•The prevalence, toxicity, toxicokinetics and metabolic profile of 14-(R)-hydroxy-gelsenicine were investigated.•Flumazenil could effectively relieve symptoms of poisoning caused by 14-(R)-hydroxy-gelsenicine.
