•Transcripts of Sp-NP1 are mainly localized in the 6, 10, 11 cell clusters in the cerebral ganglion.•Sp-NP1 can be released into the haemolymph of S. paramamosain serving as neurohormone.•Sp-NP1 inhibited vitellogenin systhesis in the hepatopancreas.
