Handover of care and of information by community midwives, maternity care assistants and Preventive Child Healthcare professionals, a qualitative study.

•In the past few years, steps have been taken at various levels to improve the handover of information between primary midwifery care, maternity care and PCHC.•Every profession has its own vision on antenatal, postnatal and child healthcare, but for every profession the focal point is the health and wellbeing of the family.•Digitizing seems to be the best solution for sending the information to the next party in the chain safely and on time.•Those interviewed for this study share the opinion on a ‘warm’ or joint handover with both healthcare providers and parents being the ideal situation for handover, especially in case of vulnerable families.
