摘要
We believe there is a need for UK Anaesthetists to update their knowledge concerning the perioperative management of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) in children. Most anaesthetists will encounter children with diabetes presenting for surgery and so should be familiar with the management of hypo and hyperglycaemia, perioperative blood glucose targets and insulin therapy, including pumps and knowledge of whether the pumps are compatible with medical equipment (e.g. diathermy and MRI)(1)(2). Hospitals should have local guidelines for the perioperative management of children with diabetes based on the 2014 International Society of Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (IPSAD) guidelines(3).
