摘要

•Epidemiological data on hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection are scarce in Brazil.•This study investigated the occurrence of HEV infection in HIV-infected individuals and blood donors from southern Brazil.•Anti-HEV IgG prevalence did not differ between the two cohorts (6.7% and 7.1%).•HEV RNA and antibodies (IgM and IgG anti-HEV) were detected in a blood donor sample, prospectively.
