•Plasma cfDNA levels at NIPT are positively associated with risk of ICP and PE.•Increase of cfDNA in women with age ≥ 35 is associated with increased risk of GDM.•Increase of cfDNA reduces the risk of GDM among the women with age < 35.•Maternal age may be an important effect regulator on association of cfDNA with GDM.
