摘要
•Core muscle in healthy male and female living donors significantly decreased during the first week after surgery and then gradually and fully recovered to the preoperative level 3 months after surgery.•A postoperative U-shaped recovery was present in the core muscle of male and female living donors who underwent a right lobe hepatectomy for liver transplant based on the ratio between the remnant left lobe volume and whole liver volume (≥30%).•As reduced core muscle mass has adverse effects on postoperative outcomes, further studies on the factors that cause a decrease in core muscle mass and strength in surgical situations should be conducted in living donors
