Increased risk of osteoporotic fracture in community-dwelling elderly men 20 or more years after gastrectomy: The Fujiwara-kyo Osteoporosis Risk in Men (FORMEN) Cohort Study.

•Population-based studies on the association between gastrectomy and fracture risk are scarce.•Community-dwelling elderly gastrectomized Japanese men had higher fracture risk than non-gastrectomized men.•Longer period since gastrectomy, rather than reason for gastrectomy, was associated with an increased fracture risk.•People who have survived for a long period after gastrectomy are a target population for management of fracture risk.
