Design, performance characterization and hydrodynamic modeling of intermeshed spinning basket membrane (ISBM) module

•Shear enhanced membrane module with inbuilt flux regeneration facility.•Intermeshed baskets were fitted with flat sheet membranes on alternate sides.•Maximum permeate flux was 2.4 × 10−4 m3 m−2 s−1 in ultrafiltration of BSA.•Regenerated flux, after 11 h was more than 85% of start-up flux.•Preliminary CFD simulation indicates high shear at membrane surface.
