Molten salt selection methodology for medium temperature liquid air energy storage application

•Created database of molten salts with below 200 °C melting point temperature.•Proposed novel methodology to identify and assess suitability of new salt mixtures.•Presented evaluation of thermo-physical properties of 70 molten salt mixtures.•Experimentally measured the melting point of 16 new molten salt mixtures.•Identified 2 new preferred nitrate mixtures with low melting point (95, 105 °C).
