Bubble distribution in fused quartz crucibles studied by micro X-Ray computational tomography. Comparing 2D and 3D analysis

•By μX-Ray CT the spacial position of each individual bubble can be determined.•The number of bubbles in the crucibles was the same before and after heat treatment.•The bubble volume almost doubles after heating the crucible 24 h at 1400 °C.•Samples stored in water showed no excess bubble activity compared to dry samples.
