•IL-33 mobilizes hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells.•Cells include hematopoietic stem, lymphoid, and endothelial progenitor cells.•Long-acting, oxidation-resistant IL-33 can be engineered.•A single dose of this engineered IL-33 is sufficient for stem cell mobilization.•Use of IL-33 may represent a novel approach to improve bone marrow transplantation.
