Psychometric properties, factor structure and cross-cultural validity of the quantitative CHecklist for autism in toddlers (Q-CHAT) in an Italian community setting

•Several screening instruments have been developed to detect toddlers at risk for autism.•We reported preliminary psychometric properties and factor structure of the Q-CHAT in an italian paediatric population.•The Q-CHAT demonstrated appropriate validity and cross-cultural stability within the paediatric setting.•The Q-CHAT factor structure replicated the independent contribution of the social communication and repetitive behaviours domains.
