•iPregel is up to 2300 ×  faster and 100 ×  more memory efficient than FemtoGraph.•Without sacrificing programmability, iPregel is as memory efficient as Ligra.•We observe that iPregel even provides the best performance overall in PageRank.•iPregel overcomes “programmability vs memory efficiency and performance”.
