CO2 regenerative battery for energy harvesting from ammonia-based post-combustion CO2 capture

•A novel approach of energy harvesting from CO2 capture was demonstrated.•CO2 regenerative battery was conceived to convert CO2-absorpton enthalpy.•A chemical model describing the CO2 regenerative amine battery was developed.•An electrical energy of 41 kWh/ton CO2 was experimentally obtained.•The capture energy requirement of ammonia process was 0.177 MWh/ton CO2.
