Visitors’ attachment to urban parks in Los Angeles, CA

•A survey of 287 Los Angeles park users examined place attachment and other factors.•Place attachment was associated with frequency of use and mode of travel, though not as expected.•Higher attachment correlated with willingness to participate in stewardship activities.•Renters and lower-income visitors expressed lower levels of place attachment.•Findings have implications for park management and future research into park equity and access.
