Numerical simulation of wind-driven rain distribution on building facades under combination layout

Wind-driven rain (WDR) is one of the main moisture sources of building external facades. WDR can apparently affect structural durability and hygrothermal performance. At present, most researches with WDR distribution characteristic emphasis on an isolated building rather than combination layout. In this paper, the applicability of the WDR simulation method with the Eulerian multiphase model is verified for two tandem layout buildings under the complex WDR field. With consideration of four factors including the front interfering building height, the distance between the buildings, rainfall intensity and wind velocity, the WDR distribution on the windward facade of the rear interfered building is simulated and compared with the isolated building to explore WDR variation law at both local area and global area due to aerodynamic interference. The results indicate that the WDR distribution on the windward facade of the rear interfered building is significantly affected by the front interfering building height and the local interference factor can well reflect the aerodynamic interference of the WDR distribution on the windward facade of the rear interfered building.
