•Different PCM exchangers for personal cooling are compared experimentally.•Heat transfer coefficients along PCM exchanger length direction are different.•Uneven PCM melting could lead to a higher condensing temperature.•CENG PCM performs the best with the heat transfer coefficient increased by 10 times.
