Serum Cystatin-C as predictive factor of preeclampsia: a meta-analysis of 27 observational studies

•Serum cystatin-c is a protein that can be used as a biomarker of renal function.•Serum cystatin-c levels are significantly higher among women that develop preeclampsia.•The pooled sensitivity and specificity of cystatin-c in predicting preeclampsia was 85% and 84% respectively.•Future studies should assess the predictive accuracy of cystatin-c early in the pregnancy course.
