•Uncertainty in biofilm invasion prediction has been evaluated.•Sensitivity Analysis of “invasion model” parameters has been carried out.•Gaussian processes and Polynomial chaos have been employed to deliver metamodels.•Least-Angle Regression (LAR) gPC-type expansion gave best performances.•The analysis highlighted the main biological behaviours.
