Introduction: Infective endocarditis (IE) yields a high in-hospital mortality rate despite appropriate management. Differences in patient u0026 organizational factors in public u0026 private hospitals may influence the outcome of IE patients. Additionally, there is significant healthcare expenditure due to ICU admissions, surgical intervention u0026 extended regimens of antibiotic therapy. Few studies have quantified u0026 analyzed outcomes u0026 costs of managing IE in the Australian private and public healthcare systems. Aim: To examine u0026 compare the mortality profile u0026 cost of managing public and private patients with IE. Methods: Patient u0026 costing data from St. Vincent’s Public u0026 Private Hospitals, Melbourne, was retrospectively reviewed. Included patients met the modified Duke Criteria for definite or probable IE. Results: 382 public patients u0026 107 private patients treated by the same clinicians in each setting, were included.
