Rainfall interception by winter rapeseed in Brandenburg (Germany) under various nitrogen fertilization treatments

•For the first time, the evaporation of intercepted water of a winter oilseed rape was determined.•Evaporation of intercepted water of winter oilseed rape cannot be neglected in making decisions on irrigation planning.•Less soil water is available with increasing amounts of fertilization because non-productive water losses increase.
