•A simple dual-emissive ratiometric fluorescent strip is built up for Hg2+ detection.•Ratiometric fluorescent probes are assembled and achieve Hg2+ detection with the LOD of 9 nM.•Clear color changes from red to blue enables on-site, rapid Hg2+ detection of by naked eyes.
