•CD163 on blood monocytes is increased during Haemophilus parasuis-induced sepsis.•TLR2 on blood monocytes is increased during H. parasuis-induced sepsis.•Siglec-3 on blood monocytes is increased during H. parasuis-induced sepsis.•Correlation between expression of CD163 and the other two receptors were seen.•Changes seem to be due to a recruitment of monocytes from the bone marrow.
