Modeling of fiber-reinforced polymeric gels

•We developed a continuum model for fiber-reinforced polymeric gels.•The anisotropic aspects of the model are (i) the influence of non-linear elastic embedded fibers, and (ii) anisotropic diffusion within the polymer matrix.•Qualitative comparison between an experiment and simulation shows good agreement for a diffusion activated soft robotic gripper.
