Multi-time scale dynamic analysis of integrated energy systems: An individual-based model

•An individual-based model (IBM) is proposed to model complex heterogeneous systems.•The dynamics of the multimodal system can be fully expressed by IBMs.•The computation time of IBM method for dynamic analysis is nearly 1/10 of equal-step method.•The accuracy of dynamic interactions of IBMs is verified in a practical case study.
